Healing Lung Cancer with Cannabis: A Patient Story of Hope – Inspiration – Growth and Healing

Dear Tami,
It’s been a minute since we last connected, and I hope this message finds you well. I also hope you’re continuing to enjoy good health and remain in remission following your cancer treatment. I wanted to reach out because I’ve been reflecting on the incredible video podcast we recorded about your personal journey with cannabis and cancer. Your story is so powerful and inspiring, and I was wondering if you’d be willing to share it in writing as well. I’d love to include a written version alongside the video to give others a chance to learn more about your experiences, in your own words. Let me know what you think—I’d truly appreciate it.

Most Sincerely
Nurse Sherri – The Green Nurse

My favorite Green Nurse …. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for you and everything you have guided me through this past year. I’m writing to share my journey—everything from the moment I was diagnosed to now, as I celebrate 1.5 years of being cancer-free. You have been such a vital part of this story, and I hope that by sharing it, others can learn from my experience with plant medicine, healing, and advocacy.

My Story of Healing Lung Cancer With Cannabis

The Diagnosis – It all started in January 2023. I landed in the ER thinking I had heart issues. But instead of a heart condition, the scan revealed a stage 0-1 tumor on my left lung. In early March, after more tests and biopsies, I was officially diagnosed with Non-Smokers Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSNSS) Stage 3A. My oncologist informed me that all 14 lung lymph nodes were affected and the tumor was blocking my left lung’s air pipe, making surgery too dangerous at the time.

My Goals for Treatment – My primary goal from the start was to alleviate suffering and enhance my quality of life as I navigated chemotherapy and surgery. I wanted to:

  • Stay as comfortable as possible during chemo treatments
  • Protect my white blood cells & healthy cells
  • Shrink cancer cells
  • Ease my cancer-related anxiety
  • Preserve my mental health
  • Keep my appetite up
  • Get proper sleep

My Cannabis Dosing & Protocol – I started high-dose THC Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) late in my journey, but I dove in headfirst. I took 60 grams of THC RSO in 60 days, plus 100 grams of CBD RSO daily. I filled my own capsules and purchased my THC RSO from a medical-only dispensary in Roy, Washington. A friend generously gifted me the CBD RSO from his business.

After our discussion, you, as my Green Nurse and I agreed that I should continue using RSO until the end of my chemotherapy, which I faithfully did. In total, I ended up taking around 75 grams. Thankfully, my tolerance allowed me to handle the high doses, though looking back, I’m still amazed at how I managed to get through it!

Initially, I avoided smoking because of my lung cancer diagnosis. However, as the chemo sessions progressed, I found myself with no other option. By the third round, I couldn’t even keep my anti-nausea medication down. Following your advice, I set up an indica smoke station, and it genuinely became my lifeline. Just a few small hits in the morning were enough to ease my nausea and help me take my medication. I’m incredibly grateful I followed your guidance—it provided relief when I needed it the most.

My Treatment Journey – Initially, my treatment plan involved radiation and surgery, but my oncologist introduced me to a robotic lung surgeon who halted that plan. He told me that radiation would disqualify me from robotic surgery, so we pivoted. The new plan was four rounds of Cisplatin chemo to shrink the tumor, followed by robotic surgery.

I was scheduled for chemo on April 20, 2023 (which, fun fact, is my birthday!), but fate intervened. Two days before chemo, I contracted COVID 19 virus at a dance party and had to postpone treatment for two weeks. This turned out to be a blessing because I used that time to prep my body with high-dose THC oil of RSO.

The first two rounds of chemo were bearable, largely thanks to the high-THC RSO oil. By the third round, the experience became much tougher, but the combination of THC and CBD RSO helped me preserve both my mental health and appetite. The fourth round was relentless—pure hell—but from what I’ve heard, it would have been far worse without RSO.

After round three, my scan revealed 80% tumor shrinkage. The oncologist was amazed!!!

The Surgery & Recovery – My surgery was scheduled a month after completing my final round of chemotherapy. Following your advice, I reduced my RSO dosage beforehand, opting for 10mg of THC and 100mg of CBD daily. I also made sure to inform my anesthesiologist about my regimen. This precaution stemmed from a lesson I learned during my first biopsy, when I had THC in my system but failed to disclose it—a mistake I’ll never repeat, as it could interfere with the anesthesia process.

When the surgeon went in, he couldn’t find any cancer. Still, they removed half of my left lung for biopsy, and when the results came back, I was officially declared cancer-free. Every single lymph node was clear of cancer, and the original tumor was gone.

No Evidence of Disease!

One of the most unexpected discoveries I made was the protective effect of cannabinoids on my body. When I stopped using them for a month prior to surgery, my hair finally began to fall out—something my doctor had predicted would happen much earlier. I also noticed a significant worsening of my chemotherapy symptoms during that time. It was then that I truly realized how much the blend of cannabinoids had supported and shielded me throughout my treatment journey.

Post-Treatment & Life Today – My oncologist initially recommended a three-year course of Tagrisso, a targeted therapy. However, when I asked if it would truly impact my long-term outcome, the answer was no. Despite this, the prescription was filled, and a bottle was sent to me. That moment made me deeply question the principles of conventional medicine.

Now, I maintain my health with:

  • 100mg of Full Spectrum CBD daily
  • 10mg THC / 10mg CBD at night (Full Spectrum)
  • Occasional psilocybin microdosing for post-cancer depression

My outcome has shocked every oncologist I’ve met. They say they’ve never seen a lung cancer recovery like mine. My case has been shared throughout Washington State, and my chances of recurrence are 10% or less.

Despite my remarkable results, my oncologist refused to discuss my complete treatment plan or acknowledge the impact of plant medicine. It’s frustrating, but I hold onto my truth—a truth I hope you’ll share with others.

Reflections & Final Thoughts – I’m really grateful for plant medicine and the Green Nurses who stand by their patients when no one else will. Without you, I would have been lost. I know that for a fact. And the best news? On March 6, 2025, I got my 1.5-year scans and labs back. I am still cancer-free.

Thank you for being part of my healing. Thank you for believing in me when I was overwhelmed and scared. And thank you for showing me the power of plant medicine when I needed it most.

Forever grateful,
Tami D.
