CBD and THC are the two most well-known cannabinoids found in hemp. What most people don’t realize about hemp is that there are actually over 100 known cannabinoids, and each one has unique benefits. Of all the cannabinoids found in hemp, one is beginning to gain a cult-like following of believers because they believe it has incredible potential. Like most aspects of hemp, we still need more research, but preliminary research on CBN is promising. The findings with CBN, or cannabinol, are consistently backed by testimonials, and the results are exciting.

Early results suggests that CBN has incredible potential to aid in pain relief and promote a full night’s rest. Again, more research is still needed, but these early findings are consistently backed by testimonials. CBN isolate is one of only a handful of hemp concentrates available as pure isolate.

What is CBN Isolate?

CBN is unique in a way that its concentration within a hemp plant grows as the plant ages. This happens when the plant is exposed to oxygen and heat, both of which end up degrading the THC into CBN. Also, unlike other cannabinoids, CBN does not come from CBG. Because of these reasons, CBN was simply thought to be a waste byproduct until now.

The biggest difference between CBD and CBN is that the latter is mildly psychoactive, which makes sense since it originates from THC. Similar to other cannabinoids, CBN also works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system present inside our bodies, specifically the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

CBN isolate is a hemp concentrate that consists of pure CBN, up to 99%, and is made by extracting CBN from a hemp plant. The isolate can then be used in a number of edibles and topicals, as required.

How is CBN Isolate Made?

There are a couple of processes which are used to extract CBN from hemp, however, the most commonly used is by CO2 extraction. As mentioned earlier, CBN is present in low quantities as compared to CBD which makes it difficult to extract. Generally, aging plants are preferred for extraction since they have higher concentrations of CBN. This is why CBN isolate is usually more pricey when compared to CBD or CBG isolates.

A higher quality isolate will almost always translate to 1mg of CBN for every milligram of isolate consumed. This also makes it easy to measure the servings and then use it as desired.

So, Should You Use CBN?

Research on CBN is still fairly new, even by industry standards, however, it is already showing plenty of promise. A number of studies have been carried out and the benefits of CBN are currently being tested through various clinical trials.

Products that are usually created with CBN isolate include health supplements such as diffuser oils and tea products. This is easier since the isolate lacks any odor or taste.  Additionally, tinctures and topicals are also being made from CBN isolate. In the end, it all comes down to your own preference and the method of consumption that works best for you by producing the desired effects.
