The Best Sweet & Spicy CBD Infused BBQ Sauce Recipe

Grilling season is here and the only way to do it right is to do it yourself. An age-old phrase that actually means something when it comes to cooking. Cooking from scratch may take more time, but each meal turns out tastier, and healthier than it would if it came off the shelf. So take your grilling game to the next level this season with CBD infused BBQ sauce and recipes that are great for the whole family.

Healthier Ingredients

This recipe features healthier ingredients than most BBQ sauces without sacrificing any sweetness. Instead of opting for the high-fructose option that is ketchup we rolled with a healthier alternative – organic tomato paste.  Coconut oil is a healthy alternative to vegetable oil, so we switched that up as well. With all these healthy additions in mind picking the right orange juice goes a long way. Look for a more naturally focused less sugary orange juice for this awesome sauce.  CBD infused BBQ sauce is a great way to get your daily dose of CBD while enjoying some of your favorite foods. Instead of paying an arm and a leg for specially marketed sauces why not make your own with CBD isolate?

Researchers believe that stress is the underlying cause of most doctors visits – 75% in fact. Researchers also continue to link CBD to stress reduction. The math here is simple. If you do nothing else, you should at least strive to be less stressed. Saying be less stressed is easy, actually relaxing a bit more complicated than it should be. Multiple studies show that CBD may not merely reduce stress at the moment, but help with chronic stress and anxiety as well.

CBD Options

  • 1 tsp Coconut MCT Oil (If you’re using CBD Isolate)
  • 1 gram CBD Isolate (Not required if using pre-made CBD oil)
  • Use desired dose of CBD oil tincture (CBD Oil Tincture’s with an MCT oil base work in place of CBD Isolate)

The Sauce

  • 1 tbsp Coconut MCT Oil (Unrefined)
  • 1/2 cup Onion (Finely Chopped)
  • 1-2 Jalapenos (Minced)
  • 3-5 cloves Garlic (Minced)
  • 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tbsp dijion mustard
  • 1/2 cup Pure Maple Syrup
  • 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Himalayan Pink Salt
  • 1-2 tbsp Chipotle Pepper Powder (Spice to preference)
  • 3/4 cup Organic Tomato Paste
  • 1 cup Organic Orange Juice
  • 2-3 tsp Cinnamon (More if you like Cinnamon)
  • 2 tsp Ground Coffee
  • 1 tbsp MCT Oil

CBD Infusion

If you are using CBD isolate: Begin by infusing the CBD Isolate with MCT oil using the double boiling method. Details on infusion provided below recipe.

If you’re using an MCT oil based CBD tincture you’ll simply add the desired dose with the rest of the ingredients and stir well.

The Sauce

Heat 1 tablespoon of unrefined coconut MCT oil in a saucepan over medium heat.

Cook onions in coconut oil for about five minutes. Onions should become soft. Stir occasionally.

Add jalapenos and garlic – stir for 30-45 seconds or until you begin to smell the garlic.

Add: apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, maple syrup, paprika, salt, chipotle powder, cinnamon, coffee, CBD infused MCT oil, tomato paste, and orange juice.

Bring to a simmer then cook over low heat stirring occasionally for about 20 minutes. Initially, you’ll want to stir a lot to properly mix the CBD into the sauce.

Remember to Taste as you cook and add ingredients as desired.

Remove from stove and let cool.

Keep refrigerated – stores best for 3-5 days.

There are two ways you can go about prepping your CBD for this recipe.

If you’re using CBD isolate: Use the double boiling method to infuse CBD isolate with MCT oil. Dose as desired. We used 1 full gram of CBD isolate with 1 tablespoon of unrefined coconut MCT oil for this recipe.

Check out our comprehensive guide on the double boiling method here.

Feel free to swap our coconut MCT oil for a carrier oil of your preference. Avocado oil, olive oil, hemp oil, and almond oil are all carrier oils that would work as well.

This recipe was inspired by Jessica Gavin’s homemade barbecue sauce. We put our own twist on it and added a few more ingredients including CBD to give it a bit more zest.

The Results

I used the sauce as a rub before I grilled the chicken. Because of the size of the chicken breasts, I slow cooked each side for about 30 minutes. After the chicken came off the grill I added plenty of this delicious CBD infused sauce – and it was pretty chill. It is important to note that you are burning off the CBD in the sauce that gets cooked into the chicken because of the temperature levels. I used the sauce on the chicken before grilling to enjoy more of the flavor of the sauce. Feel free to increase the amount of chipotle and jalapenos to bring out a bit more heat.
